You should never put fat, oil, or grease down your sink. These materials can clog both your pipes at home and sewer system.
The good news: many fats can be reused in the kitchen, including bacon grease. And hey, if it was good enough for grandma, it’s good enough for you! (Seriously, we can’t think of anything else that adds so much flavor to food.)
To start, use a glass, ceramic or stainless steel container. An inexpensive and option is a Mason Jar.
Pour bacon grease into the container. It’s important to use a filter to separate the grease from food particles. This can be a coffee filter, cheesecloth, or in a pinch, a paper towel.
Put a lid on it and store it in the refrigerator for up to six months.
Voila – access to instant flavor! Use it to season vegetables like black eyed peas and green beans, or to add flavor to fries.
